Treat yourself to a luscious meal at The Coach and Horses, Kew

We stumbled upon this pub by chance.  It was Sunday evening and we had spent a few hours at Richmond Park to observe the deers as we are now in the breeding season (“deer rut”, when the Red stags and Fallow bucks compete for females…). We were quite muddy and exhausted by both the walk and the cold and needed a warm place to recover. We actually found a heaven place at Kew! Warm, cosy, comfy, with a friendly staff and great food…Coach and Horses is a charming gastropub I want to present you today.

Stylish interior

Coach and Horses Doyouspeaklondon Lifestyle London BlogThis is the first impression that counts. When we entered Coach and Horses we were immediately seduced by the interior decor: the warm colors and textures everywhere make you feel at home.
Coach and Horses Doyouspeaklondon Lifestyle London BlogAren’t these blue, orange and green colors the perfect match for a perfect dinner?
Coach and Horses Doyouspeaklondon Lifestyle London BlogThe botanical inspired pattern of the chairs and wall paintings reminds us how close we are from the stunning Royal gardens of Kew…
Coach and Horses Doyouspeaklondon Lifestyle London BlogOriginally a Coach Inn, this pub (and building) has been carefully restored & tastefully refurbished, and it is a very enjoyable place where to relax.
Coach and Horses Doyouspeaklondon Lifestyle London BlogThis festival of colors did whet our appetite and we were in the perfect mood to look at the menu…

Exquisite cuisine

Coach and Horses Doyouspeaklondon Lifestyle London BlogThe Coach and Horses menu suggests a few seasonal classics revisited by the Chef that we were delighted to try. The kids had The Coach & Horses burger, which they found excellent with its well-cooked meat and delicious fries.

My husband chose the fish option: a “Scottish trout with black cabbage, salt baked beetroot with pickled fennel”, which he said was very fresh and tasty.
Coach and Horses Doyouspeaklondon Lifestyle London BlogAs for me, I had the most delicious “chicken, ham and leek pie” I have ever eaten! Perfectly cooked, full of fresh ingredients … The mash potatoes and savoy cabbage with the Youngs original ale gravy were all just as scrumptious… It went down a treat!
Coach and Horses Doyouspeaklondon Lifestyle London BlogThe biggest surprise came from the dessert though. While the rest of my family shared and enjoyed a few (very yummy) sorbets, I ordered a “vanilla and nutmeg pannacotta, with berry coulis”, as I was very intrigued by the subtle association of flavours. What a joy it was! The nutmeg was very present on the palate without being excessive, and did not dominate the whole flavour: the vanilla aromas remain strong in the mix. Do I have to mention I usually does not fancy using the nutmeg in my cooking?
The texture of this pannacotta was also divine … just telling …

Coach and Horses Hotel

Coach and Horses Doyouspeaklondon Lifestyle London BlogThis is something I learnt at the pub: The Coach & Horses have 31 bespoke design boutique bedrooms “with each room inspired by neighbours, the world famous Kew Gardens”.
Coach and Horses Doyouspeaklondon Lifestyle London BlogIt must be quite something to stay a night or two in this beautiful hotel.
At this point, I would just be happy to explore the hotel and discover the rooms … even though the idea of living the full experience of a hotel + breakfast is more than tempting (I have heard the breakfast is soooooo delicious; no need to say more to convince me!).
