When it comes to enjoying all the seasons of the year, West London is a great area to go to as it is filled with many beautiful Parks including Osterley. This National Trust estate counts a Georgian House and Gardens, which are of interest all year-round because of the many activities organised there. I have to say my favorite season remains Spring. Go to West London and admire all the beauty of Osterley Park and House!

A Georgian mansion

Osterley Doyouspeaklondon Lifestyle London BlogIt was originally a Tudor house built in 1570s, which became property of wealthy banker Sir Francis Child in 1713. His grandson engaged Robert Adam from 1761 to remodel and transform Osterley into the ‘palace of palaces’ that we can visit today.
Osterley Doyouspeaklondon Lifestyle London BlogThe house’s interior is full of fine decorations, friezes and furniture designed by Adam specifically for each setting.
Osterley Doyouspeaklondon Lifestyle London BlogThe Long Gallery is the most impressive room of the house. Spanning the entire length of the building, it is 40 metres long. The Long Gallery has been featured in films such as The Young Victoria and Belle.

The Tapestry Room was designed to impress and entertain important guests such as royalty. The tapestries themselves took four years to complete and contain references to Mrs Child’s love of her garden and animals (apparently there’s a white rabbit and her gardening hat amongst the birds and flowers).

The State Bedchamber was designed as a mixture of a classic temple and theatrical stage setting as you can see (but it is said that Robert and Sarah Child rarely slept in -if ever- because they preferred their modest rooms upstairs).

Osterley Park

Osterley Doyouspeaklondon Lifestyle London BlogThe Park is very nice and you’ll start the visit with a view of the lake on the left side when heading to the house. You will meet the many ducks and geese who are not at all afraid by the usual human crowd there.
Osterley Doyouspeaklondon Lifestyle London BlogYou can walk through the formal garden near the House which is full of colorful flowers…Wait until Spring to really enjoy the garden in full bloom.
Osterley Doyouspeaklondon Lifestyle London BlogThe park counts impressive huge trees, hundreds of years old, like this “Oriental Plane tree planted in 1755” and obviously one of the oldest tree in Osterley Park.

What’s on at Osterley Park?

Osterley Doyouspeaklondon Lifestyle London BlogI like Osterley Park as many events are organized there, starting with sports activities.
You can participate in Osterley Parkrun (Weekly Free 5km Timed Run) which take place on Saturdays.
You can also cycle at Osterley. In 2017  the majority of pathways at Osterley were resurfaced and new cycling skills area and trails were created. Securing Rider Cycling courses are even available (bookings essentials) if you or your children need to learn how to cycle with more confidence.
All yoga lovers will also appreciate the yoga sessions run by The House of Yoga on Sunday mornings.
There are also regular events throughout the year, such as the Easter Fun activities or Mother’s day (with a free entry for all mums!) in springtime.

I hope this post will convince you to go to Osterley Park and enjoy the House and Gardens. Don’t hesitate to share your opinion about this place on my blog!
