There are places where you instantly feel at home. The friendliness of the staff at your arrival, the abundance of decoration on the walls which creates a unique atmosphere, the comfort of the bench seats… and the secret garden!
As I walked into The Buttery in Belgravia (the restaurant is part of the adjoining hotel The Limetree), I knew I would find my little place of heaven. Just have a look at the pictures and you’ll see what I mean…
Today, DOYOUSPEAKLONDON takes you to The Buttery for a special lunch…

The Buttery, a hidden gem in Belgravia

How cute is this little entrance?

You have to know I discovered this place back in December 2021. It was cold and gloomy outside, and -as many of us- I needed to cheer up a bit to forget about the pandemic context…

I was instantly drawn to this flowery entrance door…(I know it’s not real, but that’s part of the magic!)

I had noticed this appealing entrance door on a previous walk and promised myself to look more into it next time I’d be in the area…which happened last December when a friend and I had booked a manicure nearby (a double treat in one day, what else??!).

That will be our little secret place indeed…

I arrived a bit earlier and was so amazed by the place I started taking photographs of every little corner in the restaurant (only a few people were there, so it was easy not to bother anyone).

Anyone fancy a little table by the window?

A casual and warm atmosphere, where everything has its place to make you feel comfortable, with a well-thought taste for the natural, homemade, and country style.

Isn’t it lovely? I can’t resist this rustic-chic ambiance…

When my friend arrived, we had a look at the menu and ordered our lunch straight away…

The menu was not particularly extensive, but we found exactly what we wanted.

Starting with fresh and tasty nibbles: Baba Ghanoush, Focaccia & Goats’ Cheese and Crispy Fried Squid with Sweet chilli dip, on which we threw ourselves voraciously.

The Crispy Fried Squid with Sweet chilli dip, a true delight!

Then we had our mains: a superfood salad for me and spiced Acorn Squash for my friend.

Each meal was well presented, hearty enough, and full of flavours. Such a treat!

We did not have the time to try everything, but I’ve heard the coffee comes from The Gentlemen Baristas, and there’s a selection of classic cocktails and a wine list featuring produce from some of the pre-eminent British vineyards. I’ll have to remember that on my next visit…

I’ll book this table next time I come!

Before we tore ourselves from this lovely place, I took some pictures of the highlight of the place: the secret garden!

The most secret garden in Belgravia!

Ready to go out and discover this hidden heaven?

Although it was quite cold outside, everything was ready to welcome guests in the garden: blankets had been provided everywhere and comfy cushions on the chairs were in place.

I’m not that brave to defy the cold in the middle of winter but I won’t mind coming back here in spring…

I was told the garden had been transformed previously to our visit to make it look perfect and compliant with covid regulations.

Such a peaceful and charming place in the heart of London, I could not believe my eyes… I have no doubt this will become my go-to place whenever I’m in the area from now on!

The Snug, a cozy private event space

I love this atmosphere! Look at the natural light, the high ceilings, the exposed brickwork, the vintage furniture, and the original art adorning the walls…

I was literally under the charm of this room as soon as I discovered it.

In line with the rustic-chic style of the restaurant, this room is just as welcoming and I can easily imagine the benefits of a meeting here where comfort and relaxation would stimulate all hardworking minds…

I marveled at all the details dotted in the room…

But I can also see myself booking the space for an intimate party: the room welcomes up to 14 guests at the long table or can accommodate up to 30 guests standing.

The perfect place to enjoy a roaring fire, isn’t it?

I honestly could not recommend this place enough. It has everything we need just now: a comfy place, comfort food, caring staff…

I have not visited the hotel rooms though but I’ve heard they’re just as stylish and authentic as the rest of the place, which sounds ideal for my liking.
