Wales: the perfect holiday escape (1) !

Wales London lifestyle blog Doyouspeaklondon

I long wanted to discover Wales. Since my arrival in London, I have heard many things about this part of the UK. It is famous for its stunning nature, the beautiful coastline, the mountainous national parks and nice villages. Add to that a distinctive language and culture and Wales appears as an attractive holiday retreat!
I recently spent one week there, immersing myself in the south part of the country. And what a pleasure it was! Let me introduce you to (south) Wales.

Tenby

Wales London lifestyle blog DoyouspeaklondonI stayed for the week with my family in a cottage near Tenby in Pembrokeshire, in the South part of Wales.
Wales London lifestyle blog DoyouspeaklondonTenby is a charming town on the western side of the Carmarthen Bay.
Wales London lifestyle blog DoyouspeaklondonI loved the colored houses, the small harbour and the warm pubs.
Wales London lifestyle blog DoyouspeaklondonTenby is well-known for its remaining 13th century walls and interesting history
Wales London lifestyle blog Doyouspeaklondon… as well as for its beautiful sandy beach, where families and dogs walkers like to wander.
Wales London lifestyle blog DoyouspeaklondonFrom there, you can enjoy the view on St Catherine’s Rock (or  St Catherine’s Island at high tide).
Wales London lifestyle blog DoyouspeaklondonTenby was a perfect central location, which allowed us to visit many places in Pembrokeshire.

Marloes

Wales London lifestyle blog DoyouspeaklondonWe discovered the Marloes Peninsula on the second day of our holidays.
Wales London lifestyle blog DoyouspeaklondonThe upper part of the Marloes Peninsula is very wild. We walked on the cliff path to the place called “Haven Point” to enjoy the breathtaking view.
Wales London lifestyle blog DoyouspeaklondonWe were so stunned by the beauty of the nature there and appreciated so much to experience the wildlife that we could not imagine better place in Wales (but obviously we were wrong… there are other similar places!).
Wales London lifestyle blog DoyouspeaklondonWe enjoyed the wildness of the coast (quite deserted by tourists at this time of year) and spotted sheep and even a few seal pups asleep down in an inaccessible creek. We also admired the flight of birds fighting against the wind …
Wales London lifestyle blog DoyouspeaklondonThe lower part of Marloes Peninsula is famous for its beautiful sand beaches (some of them are even recognised as ones of the world’s best), like Marloes Sands. Which is spectacular indeed.
Wales London lifestyle blog DoyouspeaklondonI am really impressed by the way the beaches have been protected from abusive constructions so far. Everything is preserved. All along the coast. A real treasure!
Wales London lifestyle blog DoyouspeaklondonOne reason may be that The National Trust Charity owns several beaches areas and access to the seaside is controlled.
Wales London lifestyle blog DoyouspeaklondonSometimes there is no need to travel the world to find amazing beauty… Wales is a very surprising country.
Wales London lifestyle blog DoyouspeaklondonWe spent the maximum time there laying and playing on the beach, before the high tide kicked us away… and I could not help but taking pictures of the magnificent scenery around us.

Stackpole

Wales London lifestyle blog DoyouspeaklondonStackpole is another amazing area closer to Tenby, which counts award-winning sandy beaches and an amazing coastline.
Wales London lifestyle blog DoyouspeaklondonStackpole is  a central point offering several walking trails from where admiring the coast.
Wales London lifestyle blog DoyouspeaklondonAnd of course you can stroll on beautiful beaches, like “Broad Haven South”, where we stayed until dark.
Wales London lifestyle blog DoyouspeaklondonAlso nearby, “Barafundle Bay” is said to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Wales.
Wales London lifestyle blog DoyouspeaklondonIf you are looking for a place to have lunch, I recommend St. Govan’s Country Inn.
Wales London lifestyle blog DoyouspeaklondonIt is a warm place where we appreciated our indian food very much as well as homemade lasagnes!
Wales London lifestyle blog DoyouspeaklondonAfter 3 days in Wales we had already soaked in the special atmosphere there. And still we had more to discover in Pembrokeshire, South Wales… Stay tuned to learn more about this captivating country!
