I was invited by a friend to Alcotraz London, and I have to say, it was one of the most unique experiences I’ve had in the city!
Imagine a mix of immersive theatre set in a prison and a cocktail bar, where you’re not just an observer, but a participant. From start to finish, it was chaotic, hilarious, and completely unforgettable!

Alcotraz: immersive theatre in a carceral environment
Walking into Alcotraz, the first thing that hits you is how surprisingly real it feels. You’re literally stepping into a prison: slipping into orange jumpsuits, standing behind barred doors, and surrounded by actors who are fully committed to their roles.
But it’s not just for show, you’re actually part of the story!
Before the night even began, I was asked to create my character, decide who I would be inside this prison world. Naturally, I chose someone bold… someone who would rob jewellery right from the start.
From there, the night unfolded completely in character: I accused co-prisoners of contraband, tried to bribe another convict, and even pulled off a daring escape.
Every action had consequences, and the way the actors (and other visitors) responded made the whole experience feel dynamic, unpredictable, and totally immersive.
It’s theatre done in a way that’s fun, chaotic, and genuinely engaging. A seriously refreshing break from the usual night out in London!
Cocktails & Mocktails at Alcotraz London
Throughout the evening, there are pauses in the action where drinks are served directly in your prison cell. A small but clever touch that keeps you fully immersed.
Here’s the fun twist: you’re supposed to bring your own alcohol to mix your drinks. Unfortunately, we forgot ours, so we ended up with mocktails instead of cocktails!
Honestly? It didn’t matter. The mocktails were still delicious, and the playful setting made everything more fun.
Being part of the bar scene while still immersed in the prison theme is a unique twist you won’t always find in London, and even a “sober” visit feels like a total party.
A fun and unique London experience
What really makes Alcotraz stand out is how interactive and unusual the entire night is.
It’s not just a bar, and it’s not just theatre, it’s a hybrid experience that keeps you laughing, playing, and interacting.
The joy is contagious, and it spreads easily among the other inmates, making everyone feel part of the chaos.
The attention to detail, from the sets to the characters to the storyline, is impressive, and it’s perfect for anyone looking for something different to do in London.
Whether you’re going with friends, on a quirky date, or just want a night full of laughs, Alcotraz is a guaranteed good time.
