A day in Cliveden

If you want to indulge yourself on a sunny day, go to Cliveden! This national trust is located west of London, near Slough and Windsor. This place offers magnificent gardens overlooking the River Thames and far-reaching views. The amateurs of flowers will be delighted, those looking for a nap in the sun won’t forget it, and if you are under 10 you’ll enjoy doing rolls on the grass!

A day at the Imperial War Museum

I must say I am not particularly attracted by museums related to wartime. But after wandering in the Imperial War Museum for a few hours without noticing the time, I was forced to admit I enjoyed visiting this museum. And once again, this museum offers free admission, therefore you have no excuse avoiding it…

Delacroix at the National Gallery

Delacroix has always been a great painter to me. This French romantic artist was fond of bright colours and energetic brushstrokes. His opposition to Ingres is well-known and justified as Ingres put more emphasis on the drawing and adopted a neoclassical style, whereas Delacroix stressed on colours and movement in his paintings. Delacroix marked a break with the past techniques and styles.

An escape to Canterbury, in Kent

Since I moved to England I have been told a lot about the Kent well-known place of Canterbury. I have mostly heard of its Cathedral, which became a major focus of pilgrimage after the 1170 martyrdom of Thomas Becket. Canterbury and history served as the frame for Geoffrey Chaucer’s 14th-century classic The Canterbury Tales, that you can experience as a tourist attraction (information there).
