Discovering Levent Börek: layers of flavour in London!

London has always been a mosaic of cuisines, and one of the true pleasures of living here is stumbling across flavours you didn’t even know you were missing.

That’s exactly what happened when I discovered Levent Börek. From the very first bite, this warm, flaky pastry felt comforting yet full of delightful surprises. And beyond börek, there’s so much more to explore on the menu, each dish with its own subtle charm.

Today, DOYOUSPEAKLONDON invites you to discover delicious börek (and much more) right here in London.

Börek in London: the pastry worth knowing about

One of the most talked-about böreks around

I first came across Levent Börek on Instagram. People were raving about “the most famous börek in the world”, posting close-ups of molten cheese stretching between golden layers of pastry.

Curiosity (and a lovely invitation from the owners) led me to visit their Chiswick branch on a weekday morning.

At the time, I didn’t know much about börek. A quick search described it simply: a pastry made from thin, layered dough, filled with cheese, meat, spinach, or potatoes, then baked or fried.

Simple on paper, but much more exciting in reality!

What is börek like to eat?

What I discovered was immediately appealing. Börek is crisp and flaky on the outside, yet soft, tender, and comforting inside. It’s wonderfully versatile too, perfect as a snack, for breakfast, lunch, or as part of a bigger meal.

The shapes vary depending on tradition and region: rolled, layered, spiral-shaped, or triangular. At Levent Börek, they’re served in neat squares, generously filled and beautifully baked.

I tried the cheese version, and it was a real highlight. The cheese melted and stretched perfectly: rich, comforting, and deeply satisfying. If cheese isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other options, from meat and spinach to potato fillings. There really is something for everyone.

A renowned family business

Behind Levent Börek is a story rooted in family tradition. The recipes date back to 1968, passed down from father to son.

Today, that legacy has grown into something impressive: they now produce 4.6 million kilos of filled börek every year (yes, really!), yet the food still feels crafted rather than mass-produced. The care, technique, and respect for tradition remain at the heart of everything they do.

All-day breakfast, Levent Börek style

Levent Börek Chiswick

The Chiswick location has a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. We were greeted by Dina, whose passion for the place and eagerness to share the house specialities made us feel instantly at home.

As we browsed the menu, we watched regulars popping in for takeaway böreks, while others ordered the café’s Union Coffee, a local favourite. I opted for tea instead, strong, bold, and exactly what I needed to kick-start the day.

An all-day menu to explore

Beyond börek, Levent Börek offers a generous all-day menu. Alongside the scent of fresh pastry and dough, you’ll find a range of breakfast and brunch dishes available at any time.

If you’re feeling traditional, there’s a classic full English breakfast. We were particularly taken by the fried eggs with braised beef, hearty, flavourful, and incredibly satisfying. The Turkish eggs were just as impressive, with perfectly runny yolks paired with garlicky herbed yoghurt and tangy sourdough.

Freshly prepared salads add a lighter touch and balance the richness of the pastries beautifully. What makes the menu special is how it blends London’s local tastes with Turkish-inspired dishes, creating a mix that feels both familiar and exciting.

You’ll also find gözleme, wraps, sandwiches, and toasties, all available to eat in or take away.

Sweet delights

If you have a sweet tooth, you won’t be disappointed.

The counter is filled with tempting desserts, including baklava and fresh pastries from the renowned Seven Seeded bakery.

We couldn’t resist the chef’s fluffy pancakes, and they were a wonderful surprise: light, airy, and easy to enjoy even after a savoury feast.

A growing presence in London

One of the nicest things about Levent Börek is that it’s not limited to just one corner of the city. They currently have locations in Chiswick and Fitzrovia, with new branches opening soon in Notting Hill, Angel, and Richmond.

Whether you’re sitting in, grabbing a quick takeaway, or ordering for a small gathering, Levent Börek feels approachable while staying true to its craft.

If you enjoy discovering new flavours in London, this is a place well worth trying. And if you do visit, don’t forget to share your thoughts with DOYOUSPEAKLONDON. I’d love to hear what you think.
