Discovering Levent Börek: layers of flavour in London!

Levent Börek Doyouspeaklondon Lifestyle London Blog

London has always been a mosaic of cuisines, and one of the pleasures of living here is stumbling across flavours you didn’t even know you were missing.

At Levent Börek, I discovered exactly that kind of surprise: a warm, flaky börek that’s comforting while offering small, delightful touches in every bite. There’s plenty more to explore on the menu, too, each dish with its own subtle appeal.

Today, DOYOUSPEAKLONDON invites you to discover delicious börek (and more) right here in London!

Börek in London: the pastry worth knowing about!

One of the most talked-about böreks around

I first spotted Levent Börek on Instagram. People were raving about “the most famous börek in the world,” showing close-ups of cheese stretching between layers of pastry.

Curiosity, along with a lovely invite from the owners, had me visiting their Chiswick branch on a weekday morning.

I honestly didn’t know much about börek at first. I had looked it up online and found a simple definition: “Börek is a pastry made from thin, layered dough filled with ingredients like cheese, meat, spinach, or potatoes, then baked or fried.”

What’s it like to try a börek?

What I discovered was really appealing: the pastry is flaky and crisp on the outside, yet soft and tender on the inside. I love how versatile börek is: perfect as a snack, breakfast, lunch, or part of a meal.

The shapes can vary too: rolled, layered in a pan, or formed into triangles or spirals. At Levent Börek, they come in neat squares. And the filling… just right! I tried the cheese version, and the cheese melted and stretched beautifully!

For those less keen on cheese, there are plenty of other options, from meat and spinach to potatoes. Truly, there’s something for every taste.

A renowned family business

The story behind it is rooted in family tradition, going back to 1968, when börek recipes were passed down from father to son.

Today, that legacy has grown into something much bigger (today, they produce 4.6 million kg of filled börek each year, can you believe it?!), but it still carries the feel of craft rather than mass production.

All-day breakfast, Levent Börek style

Levent Börek Chiswick

The Chiswick spot has a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. We were welcomed by Dina, passionate about her work and eager to share the house’s specialties.

While browsing the menu, I watched loyal customers pop in to grab their böreks to take away, while others asked for the café’s special coffee, Union Coffee, a local favourite. I went for their tea instead, strong and bold enough to kick-start the day!

An all-day menu offer

Between the steaming börek and the irresistible smell of fresh dough, Levent Börek also serves plenty of other treats, all available all day.

If you’re more into tradition, you can go for their classic full English breakfast (above).

What we really enjoyed the fried eggs with braised beef, a hearty, flavourful, and satisfying way to kick-start the day! The Turkish eggs were just as impressive, perfectly oozing, and paired beautifully with the garlicky herbed yogurt and tangy sourdough bread.

We also loved their freshly prepared salads, which balanced the richness of the pastries perfectly.

One of the things that makes this place special is how it brings together London’s local flavours with their böreks, salads, and breakfasts. The result is a delicious mix of influences that leaves you wanting to explore more of the menu!

There are also plenty of other options, like gözleme, wraps, sandwiches, and toasties, all available to eat in or take away.

Sweet delights

If you have a sweet tooth, you’ll be in luck! The counter is full of tempting desserts like baklava, or fresh pastries (see below) coming from the renowned Seven Seeded bakery.

You can also go for the chef’s fabulous fluffy pancakes, which was our choice (see below). They were absolutely delicious, surprisingly light, and easy to enjoy even after such a savoury feast.

A growing presence in London

What’s lovely is that Levent Börek isn’t tucked away in one spot. They currently have branches in Chiswick and Fitzrovia, with new locations coming soon in Notting Hill, Angel, and Richmond.

Whether you sit in, grab a quick takeaway, or even order for a small gathering, it feels like they’re offering something approachable for Londoners while staying true to their craft.

If you’re someone who enjoys exploring new flavours in London, I think Levent Börek deserves at least one try! And if you’re tempted by the place, please share your opinion on DOYOUSPEAKLONDON!
