What my family and I love best during week-ends is discovering new outdoor places around London. Having some fresh air and enjoying a beautiful scenery is quite our favourite way to spend the end of the weeks!
We visited Greys Court when Covid19 was far from being conceivable. After this (sad) period of immobility and waiting I am so glad this National Trust estate has recently reopened !
Today, DOYOUSPEAKLONDON invits you to explore Greys Court and make the most of the sunny days!

Greys Court in Oxfordshire

Greys Court is located in the southern Chiltern Hills at Rotherfield Greys, near Henley-on-Thames. This is a beautiful area in Oxfordshire I highly recommend for its outstanding scenic landscape.
Greys Court is composed of a beautiful Tudor country house and nice gardens.
I love this place offering a bucolic setting. There are several viewpoints and atmospheres in the same place… the ideal destination for a day out near London!

A Tudor Country House

 I was impressed by the interiors of the house. Still in very good state and well-furnished.
It felt like someone was still living here (the last owner Lady Brunner was still living at Greys Court when she passed away in 2003). At the moment it is still closed, but I can only advise you to get inside the property whenever possible, as it is the perfect way to discover what life was like in the previous centuries (and introduce our kids to it).
We attended a talk given by one of the volunteers and it was incredibly interesting! We learnt a lot about the five families who inhabited the house “from a Tudor show house to a 20th-century family home”.
There are lots of testimonies from the past and personal memories in this house, which makes it one of the most interesting I have seen so far.

Greys Court Gardens

The gardens offer a great opportunity to relax and enjoy beautiful flowers, plants and trees.
The gardens are divided into different parts: the kitchen garden, the rose garden and the wisteria walk …
I wish to come back for the wisteria season as it seems to be quite exceptional at Greys Court!
If you wish, you can also organise a longer walk around the estate (which we could not resist!)…
I walked with my kids, who particularly enjoyed running in the open fields among big trees and the sheep!
You’ve got to cross a Japanese-like bridge at the start of the walk, like an invitation to enter a new land, let our hair down and enjoy the scenery.
Then, just follow the paths and fields. You will be guided by the many trees on the way (take the time to climb on them to admire the surroundings!) and paths…
This was such a beautiful day and we were quite alone either in the house and in the gardens, so it just felt like heaven!
Even coming before spring blossoms, we could notice a few amazing flowers in the gardens…
If you wish to create a beautiful garden of your own, you can simply go to the shop and find your dream flowers (or at least good advice!).

Note from The National Trust: The gardens, estate and car park at Greys Court will reopen from 15 June 2020 and you’ll need to book your tickets by 3pm the day ​before your visit. Members can book for free, while non-members will need to pay when booking. We’ll be releasing ​tickets every Friday.​
