Halloween at Cammas Hall Farm: a terror tunnel and a sea of pumpkins!

Somewhere between London and Cambridge, a pumpkin volcano erupts every October. Yes, really: the "Pumpcano" is one of the stars of the Cammas Hall Farm Halloween season in Essex!

Around it, you'll find a huge pick-your-own pumpkin patch, a spooky walkway and a terror tunnel that made the grown-ups in our family scream louder than the kids!

Today, DOYOUSPEAKLONDON brings you through the tunnels, into the pumpkin fields and home with a carving-ready haul.

Cammas Hall Farm: from pick-your-own pioneer to Halloween favourite

Cammas Hall Farm sits in the countryside on the Hertfordshire-Essex border, just off the M11, roughly halfway between London and Cambridge.

This family-owned farm was established in 1966 and was one of the pioneers of pick-your-own. Depending on the season, you can fill your basket with strawberries, cherries, berries and fresh vegetables.

In recent years, the farm has added seasonal events to welcome new visitors, and Halloween is now one of the highlights of its calendar. I first spotted it on Instagram and knew I had to bring my family along!

Cammas Hall Farm Halloween: what to expect on the day

Into the tunnels of horror

We'd pre-booked our tickets and set off on a sunny half-term morning. After checking in, we headed straight for the tunnels of horror.

First came a gigantic spider web, crawling with surprisingly lifelike animated spiders…

Then came the characters: grinning clowns, ghostly figures and a few creatures you really wouldn't want to meet after dark!

One actor stood so perfectly still that we were convinced she wasn't real. The moment she moved, we screamed… then burst out laughing!

Funnily enough, the children around us (some under 10!) were completely unfazed, while we adults jumped at every corner. Good to know: today's Terror Tunnel is recommended for ages 12 and up.

Lost in a sea of pumpkins

Once we'd had our fill of scares and giggles, we stepped outside into the pumpkin patch. Hundreds of pumpkins stretched in every direction: I don't think I'd ever seen so many in one place!

Big ones, small ones, orange, yellow and white: there's a pumpkin for everyone. The little ones loved running (and tumbling) between the rows.

Keep your camera handy for the giant pumpkin pyramid, the spooky silhouettes and the costumed characters wandering through the field.

We even bumped into a few fellow Instagrammers, happily posing among the pumpkins…

Gourds, a playground and a pot of soup

Before heading home, take a peek at the crates of colourful gourds and squashes. Kids with energy to spare can head to the playground, while grown-ups grab a snack at the café.

We left with our pumpkin haul: just enough for carving, plus a big pot of homemade pumpkin soup!

Why Cammas Hall Farm Halloween is worth the trip

Who says Halloween scares are just for kids? At Cammas Hall, it was the adults who screamed the loudest in the tunnels, while the children marched on bravely!

Then there's the pumpkin patch itself, rolling out under big Essex skies, an easy drive up the M11 from London.

This season brings even more to discover: the erupting Pumpcano, a Wicked Walkway, a Halloween maize maze and, on selected evenings, Resurrected nights with live tribute acts.

Cammas Hall Farm turns Halloween into a family adventure, with just the right amount of scream!

Happy pumpkin hunting, and may your jack-o'-lantern be the scariest on the street! 🎃
