Hobbledown Heath pumpkin patch: West London's autumn wonderland!

Welcome to the Hobbledown Heath pumpkin patch, one of the most charming places to go pumpkin picking near London.

Since moving to London, visiting a pumpkin patch every autumn has become one of my favourite seasonal traditions. This one combines a sprawling patch, an animal park and a fun-filled adventure park in a single day out!

Today, DOYOUSPEAKLONDON takes you inside for pumpkin picking, wild encounters and a whole lot of autumn playtime magic!

The Pumpkin Patch barn at Hobbledown Heath

The story behind Hobbledown Heath and its pumpkin patch

The Hobbledown story began in Epsom, Surrey, where the family adventure park first opened its gates. Its playful mix of animals and imaginative outdoor play proved so popular that a second site followed.

Hobbledown Heath opened in Hounslow in summer 2022, across 126 acres of woodland. Expect themed villages, more than 100 animals and one of the largest indoor play areas in London.

As for pumpkin patches, the tradition has deep roots in harvest festivals and Halloween celebrations, when communities across Europe and America carved pumpkins and celebrated the season's produce.

Here, the patch sits in a meadow beside the River Crane, about a five-minute woodland walk from the main site. It's a centuries-old autumn tradition with a West London twist!

Pumpkin picking near London: what to expect at Hobbledown Heath

Arriving at the pumpkin patch

Your adventure starts at the rustic wooden barn of The Pumpkin Patch, strung with fairy lights and piled high with squashes and gourds in every colour.

If you're after a unique pumpkin, this is where you'll find a small selection in unusual shapes and colours, just in case the field doesn't give you exactly the one you wanted 😃

Picking your perfect pumpkin

Then comes the main event! I'm always amazed by just how many pumpkins these farms grow, and here the fields are full of orange pumpkins of all shapes and sizes 🎃

Grab a wheelbarrow, wander between the rows and take your time choosing. Just remember that pumpkins are paid for separately from your entry ticket.

Games, bubbles and photo spots

Beyond picking your pumpkin, entry includes seasonal games, live entertainment and bubble activities. Watching giant, shimmering bubbles float over the pumpkins is pure magic for little ones!

Then there's giant tic-tac-toe, a Pumpkin Potion corner and a gang of scarecrows to spot along the way.

Of course, whimsical photo spots are everywhere: a pumpkin-covered cottage, a heart wall, a giant frame and a little windmill surrounded by pumpkins.

For a cosy treat, you can head to the fire pits to toast marshmallows, with street food and hot drinks on hand too.

Everyone around us was clearly having a great time, laughing and soaking up the autumn atmosphere. That's what I love most about pumpkin patches: the simple joy they bring to people of all ages!

Wild encounters at the animal park

With a Patch + Park ticket, you can carry on into the main park and meet its 100+ animals. From gentle alpacas to curious meerkats standing guard, there's plenty to see!

The layout is stroller-friendly, and walking the animal trails is fun for toddlers, young kids and even adults who enjoy spotting all the different creatures.

Playtime in the adventure park

After the animals, the adventure park adds another layer of fun, with whimsical wooden villages, towers, rope bridges and delightfully wonky houses to explore.

Kids can climb, bounce and explore playful trails. For rainy days, there's also a large indoor adventure area full of soft play and climbing structures, so the fun continues whatever the weather.

It's the kind of place where you can easily spend a whole day exploring, playing and enjoying the autumn vibes!

Why the Hobbledown Heath pumpkin patch is worth the trip

First of all, few places near London let you pick a pumpkin, wave at a meerkat and climb a wonky wooden tower, all in the same afternoon!

Then, for Londoners, it's an easy countryside escape without a long drive. For visitors, it's a lovely taste of a very British autumn tradition, just a short hop from Heathrow.

Visiting later in October? Pumpkin Nights bring after-dark magic to the patch on selected evenings. Want to make a day of it? Hounslow Heath Local Nature Reserve is right next door for an autumn stroll.

The Hobbledown Heath pumpkin patch is one of the most fun-filled autumn days out near London, for little ones and grown-ups alike.

By the end of the day, you'll head home with rosy cheeks, a camera full of memories and the perfect pumpkin under your arm! 🎃
