Pottery Café: creative fun for kids, and the grown-ups too!

Pottery Cafe Fulham and Battersea Doyouspeaklondon London lifestyle blog

Think pottery classes are just for kids? Think again! Pottery Café in London is the perfect spot for kids, but also adults, to get creative and have fun. I recently went with my husband for a grown-up creative night, and we loved every minute!

With two locations in Fulham and Battersea, it’s the perfect place to get hands-on, unleash your inner child, and maybe even sip a cheeky gin & tonic while you paint!

Follow DOYOUSPEAKLONDON as I share our amazing night out at Pottery Café, a grown-up playground full of creativity, fun, and that feel-good vibe!

Pottery Café: one concept, two London locations

Pottery Café started in Fulham back in 1998, set up by Emma Bridgewater. It has been delighting locals for over 25 years!

The concept is simple: pick a pottery piece, paint it, and create your own keepsake.

The Fulham studio seats around 50 painters in its main space, plus a separate party room for up to 18 guests, ideal for kids’ parties, adult celebrations, or combined family events!

Right at the front, a charming little toy shop is packed with fair trade and wooden toys, plus finished Emma Bridgewater pottery.

There’s also a Battersea studio offering the same creative experience, but I opted for the Fulham location, more convenient for a west Londoner like me!

Fun for kids and adults alike

Pottery Café is one of those rare venues that truly entertains all ages. Whether it’s a children’s party, a family outing, or an adults-only night, everyone can enjoy picking their pottery pieces and getting creative!

Kids and adults alike can paint, mix glazes, and design their own masterpieces, all while sipping a coffee, enjoying a cake, or for the grown-ups, a cocktail.

Once you’ve finished painting, your masterpiece is left to be glazed and fired, ready to collect in about 10–15 days. Now, let’s dive into the step-by-step process…

My creative night out

We were so excited to spend an evening doing something creative together, a chance to relax, have fun, and unleash our inner artists!

Step 1: Pick your pottery
First, we chose our pottery pieces from a huge variety of shapes: mugs, bowls, letters, and more, all part of Emma Bridgewater’s collection.

Step 2: Play with colours
Then came the fun part: experimenting with colours and glazes, mixing shades, and seeing what creative combos we could come up with!

Step 3: Let your creativity run wild
Then came the fun part: letting our imagination take over, all while sipping a gin & tonic and enjoying a delicious raspberry matcha cookie! The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, with everyone around us chatting, sharing tips, and having fun. Two hours flew by in a perfect mix of creativity and relaxed vibes.

Step 4: Leave to be fired
Finally, we left our unique creations to be glazed and fired. In about two weeks, our pieces were ready to collect: a beautiful keepsake to remember a truly fun and creative night!

A big thank you to Pottery Café for inviting us, we had such a wonderful time!
