Vancouver Hotel & Studios: Bayswater's best-kept secret for a perfect London staycation

There are hotels you stay at, and hotels you genuinely fall in love with.

If you've been dreaming of a London city break that feels personal, full of charm and ridiculously well-located, this one is for you.

Today, DOYOUSPEAKLONDON is taking you to one of Bayswater's best-kept secrets: Vancouver Hotel & Studios.

Over 100 years of London charm and a story worth knowing

Here's the thing about Vancouver Hotel & Studios that makes it extra special: it has a story.

It all started in the 1920s, when two Canadian sisters arrived in London and opened a small hotel in Bayswater, naming it after their home city, Vancouver. Over a century later, the name hasn't changed. Neither has the soul of the place.

Now in only its second family ownership, this boutique hotel in London W2 has stayed true to its roots: warm, personal and full of character.

Walking through the door, you're immediately met by a painstakingly curated antique collection (knight statues, vintage clocks, quirky objets d'art) all arranged throughout the building to give it the feel of a genuine London townhouse. Impossible to copy. Absolutely oozing with character!

This isn’t a generic chain hotel or another forgettable city-centre stay. It’s the kind of place with real character, somewhere that reveals more of itself the longer you spend there.

Our stay at Vancouver Hotel & Studios: cosy rooms, garden breakfasts & exceptional service

My husband and I checked in needing a proper reset, and Vancouver Hotel & Studios delivered from the very first moment.

A boutique room feel

We stayed in the Golden Key Double Studio Room, one of the hotel’s studio options with a small kitchenette alongside all the usual hotel comforts.

It’s a genuinely smart setup, you get the flexibility of self-catering if you need it, while still having the atmosphere and service of a boutique hotel.

We never actually used the kitchen ourselves, but it’s easy to see how useful it would be for longer stays or families travelling with children.

The room itself was colourful, cosy and full of personality. Antique touches mixed with modern comforts. That classic London townhouse feel, but with a creative twist that makes it feel fresh and alive.

A comforting breakfast, indoors or outdoors

Mornings here were genuinely comforting. Fresh pastries, warm bread, ham and cheese, excellent coffee. Simple, well-done and exactly what you need before a full day of exploring.

You can have it inside the breakfast room, but in summer, you can head out to their hidden garden, where the sound of trickling water turns your morning coffee into a proper moment of calm.

There’s also a quiet reading room with books available if you fancy slowing things down even further.

Exceptional service throughout

General Manager Luca has been in hospitality for over 15 years, and it shows in the best way. From check-in to check-out, he and his team made us feel genuinely looked after.

At one point, we saw a returning guest walk in and greet the staff with a hug, which probably says more than anything else. It’s the kind of team that turns a hotel into somewhere people actually come back to.

The location, your perfect base for the best of London

Here's why Vancouver Hotel & Studios isn't just a lovely place to sleep, it's the smartest base you could pick for a London city break!

Nestled on Princes Square in Bayswater (W2), you’re perfectly placed between some of London’s most iconic neighbourhoods, all within easy walking distance!

Little Venice is just around the corner! One of London's most unexpected and enchanting spots, where canals weave between elegant white stucco houses and narrowboats drift peacefully past. A morning walk there is pure magic!

Paddington is minutes away. Not just the station, but the charming neighbourhood around it, with great cafés and local spots that visitors rarely discover.

Notting Hill is practically on your doorstep. Think Portobello Road market on a Saturday morning, gorgeous pastel-coloured houses, independent boutiques and some of the best brunch spots in London. You could easily walk there from the hotel.

Kensington Gardens, one of London's most beautiful royal parks, is a short stroll away too. Whether you want a morning jog, an afternoon picnic or simply a peaceful walk past the Diana Memorial Fountain and the Italian Gardens, it's all right there.

And when the sun goes down, you’ve got plenty within a short walk, from places like Aubaine just a few minutes away to the wider mix of neighbourhood restaurants and bars around Notting Hill. The Everyman Cinema is also close by, perfect for a relaxed film night with a glass of wine.

And if you’re in the mood for something else, you’re well covered too, whether that’s ice skating, a gym session, or a massage nearby.

Three Underground stations within walking distance mean that the rest of London is effortlessly accessible too. But honestly? You might just want to stay in the neighbourhood.

If you're planning a London city break and want somewhere with real personality, genuine warmth and a location that makes sightseeing feel completely effortless, Vancouver Hotel & Studios is definitely your answer!
