Stepping into the Roald Dahl Museum is like walking straight into one of his stories! I first experienced this magic five years ago when I joined my daughter’s class trip, and I’ve been dreaming of returning with my son and husband ever since.
There’s so much to explore about this extraordinary author and his storytelling genius. If you haven’t visited yet, add it to your bucket list—there’s something to delight every age.
Today, DOYOUSPEAKLONDON invites you to step inside the world of the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre, where magic and creativity await around every corner!

Roald Dahl & Story Center in Buckinghamshire
Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by a delightful guide, an expert on Roald Dahl’s life and works, who gave us an engaging introduction to the museum’s layout and highlights.

Next, we stepped into the first room and uncovered fascinating glimpses of Roald Dahl’s childhood, along with playful little facts that would later spark the imagination behind his beloved stories.

The author was certainly not the most docile child, and he liked nothing more than playing tricks with people around (especially adults, and preferably teachers)!

Visitors can also learn a lot about his family, his dreams of traveling the world, his passion for piloting aircraft, as well as his first job.

There are lots of pictures and objects to captivate the visitors’ attention, including the young ones: they have the opportunity to dress up like Roald Dahl or press buttons or compare their size to that of the author etc…
This place is really well-thought as everything is made to encourage you to interact and enjoy!

Roald Dahl Museum is the perfect family attraction for all ages!
The creative process of writing
The second part of the Museum is dedicated to how Roald Dahl wrote on a daily basis and what would be useful for kids to learn to write their own stories.

Exploring Roald Dahl’s habits and creative methods is a captivating way to inspire-and delight- visitors of all ages, especially young readers!

I’ve been amazed by a few kids completely absorbed by all workshops throughout the visit, and willing to do everything conscientiously!

A movie shows an interview of Roald Dahl, where he explains his method and gives advice on how he writes. Some other authors (including JK Rowling) also reveal their secrets in another part of the museum.

Roald Dahl’s Village Trail
After exploring the museum, feel free to wander the village and discover the places that inspired Roald Dahl. You’ll be given a map to guide you through the area.

We took a short walk to the nearby cemetery, where Roald Dahl is laid to rest. It was a meaningful moment as we found his grave, a quiet spot that felt deeply connected to the legacy of the beloved author.

It was a delight to stroll through the village, admiring the charming houses and their beautifully crafted doors, each one adding to the village’s unique, picturesque atmosphere.

I highly recommend taking your time to fully soak in the charm of this place. There’s so much to see and appreciate!
