There’s something magical about London at sunset: that fleeting moment when the light turns golden, the rooftops glow and the whole city seems to slow down.
I experienced that magic from the rooftop of The Berkeley, when we went with my husband to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I had no idea just how memorable the evening would become. With its Capri-inspired decor, Mediterranean touches and sweeping views across Knightsbridge, the rooftop has a wonderfully escapist feel. And on a quiet summer evening, with the golden light settling over London, there’s something undeniably romantic about it.
Today, DOYOUSPEAKLONDON brings you to the Berkeley rooftop bar in Knightsbridge, one of London's most romantic rooftop dining spots in summer!
The Berkeley rooftop bar: a mediterranean escape above Knightsbridge
The Berkeley is one of those iconic London hotels, tucked away on Wilton Place between Knightsbridge and Belgravia. It’s been part of London’s luxury hotel scene since 1972, but the rooftop is what caught my attention.

The rooftop pool itself is reserved for hotel guests, but in the evening, once the pool is closed, the rooftop opens to everyone. So you don’t come here to swim, but you come for the atmosphere, the food, the drinks and those beautiful London views!

This summer, the rooftop has a lovely Italian twist with Capri in the City, bringing a little Mediterranean feel to the heart of Knightsbridge.

You can visit Wednesday to Sunday evenings from 7:30pm, whether you fancy dinner, a drink or simply somewhere beautiful to watch the sunset. We went for the whole lot!
What makes The Berkeley rooftop bar so special?
What I loved straight away was the colour palette: the bright yellow lemon trees, the blue of the pool and the golden light of sunset. It’s a simple combination, but it works beautifully and makes the rooftop incredibly photogenic!

It was a little windy when we visited, so we had almost the whole rooftop to ourselves, which made it feel much more like a private terrace somewhere on the Italian coast than a rooftop in the middle of London!

The food is properly Italian, and we really enjoyed it. Nothing felt overcomplicated or too trend-driven. Just lovely dishes, good ingredients and plenty of Italian flavours.

And then there was this lovely little surprise: the team knew we were celebrating our anniversary, and they brought us some truffles and a glass of champagne, completely unprompted. It was such a thoughtful touch and made the evening feel even more special!

Why The Berkeley Rooftop Bar is worth visiting
A Rooftop that feels different
London has no shortage of rooftop bars, but The Berkeley feels a little different. It’s elegant without ever feeling too formal, and we particularly appreciated how warm and welcoming the staff were that evening.

They were friendly and approachable while still being incredibly professional, which made the whole experience feel relaxed and genuinely special.

Also, you get lovely views towards Hyde Park and across London, but without that feeling of being packed into a busy rooftop hotspot. When we visited, the terrace was particularly quiet, which made the whole experience feel even more special.

A little taste of Capri in London
The Capri-inspired setting is definitely part of the appeal. The lemon trees, blue pool and Mediterranean touches make you feel like you’ve briefly escaped London, even though you’re right in the middle of Knightsbridge!

And of course, it’s a great setting for photos. The colours and the evening light are pretty hard to resist!

The perfect Knightsbridge afternoon
I think The Berkeley rooftop works particularly well as the final stop of a day around Knightsbridge.
You could easily start with a little shopping spree around Harrods and the surrounding luxury boutiques, then take a slower walk through Hyde Park before heading up to the rooftop for sunset drinks and dinner.
Or, if shopping isn’t your thing, simply spend a couple of hours wandering through Hyde Park, grab a coffee along the way and make your way to The Berkeley as the light starts to change.

That combination, Hyde Park, a little bit of shopping and then sunset on the rooftop, makes for a pretty perfect London day!
Perfect for a special evening
If you’re looking for a romantic rooftop bar in London, this is definitely one to consider. It would work beautifully for a date night, anniversary or simply an evening when you want to make a bit more of an occasion.

For us, it was the combination of the setting, the food, the sunset and those little thoughtful touches from the team that made it memorable.
