A memorable evening at the 606 Jazz Club

I am fond of Jazz. I especially admire female jazz singers. From Nina Simone, whose songs move me deeply each time I listen to them; or Ella Fitzgerald, for her amazing voice and personality; to Melody Gardot, for her amazing sensibility which you can feel in all her songs, and Norah Jones, for the softness of her voice and her bluesy songs.
I had long wanted to spend an evening in a London Jazz Club to enjoy some jazz and also discover new artists. It happened a couple of weeks ago, when I first heard the stunning voice of Acantha Lang!
Today, DOYOUSPEAKLONDON invits you to discover the 606 Jazz Club in Chelsea and one of its talented jazz singer…

The 606 Jazz Club

From the website we can learn that “The 606 Club has existed as a Jazz Club Restaurant for more than 30 years, being run by musician Steve Rubie since 1976. Originally a small 30 seater basement venue at 606 Kings Road, it built up a solid reputation through the 70’s and 80’s amongst musicians and audiences as the Jazz hang-out”. The venue, now located in Chelsea, aims at supporting British-based musicians.
The 606 Club offers live jazz seven nights a week. You can also order food before and during the performance, and it’s really worth it! Our meals and desserts were delicious, the gourmets will simply love the place.
We came on a Friday night to listen to Acantha Lang and the room was full of Jazz lovers, many of them were members of the Club. We could obviously feel the good vibes and it was an awesome night!

Acantha Lang

We had heard of Acantha’s former successful performances and knew that some famous personalities had already been touched by her voice…
Acantha Lang was born and raised in New Orleans and no doubt she’s “got the blues in her bones” ! Acantha’s unleashed energy and joy on stage is very contagious: the audience truly exploded with delight!
In addition to Acantha’s awesome voice, the reason for success relies on her ability to unite top musicians around her passion for music. On stage, the musicians were smiling all the time and we could felt a real team spirit, especially coming from the guitarist.  Joy was palpable on and off stage…
Acantha Lang has already performed in various shows in New York and London, and made her name on the international jazz scene. She is currently working on her first EP Album in London.

We were glad to meet and listen to Acantha Lang. We wish her all the best in the future and will keep an eye on her agenda to get a chance to see her again…

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post and found inspiration here. If you are planning to book a jazz concert at The 606 Jazz Club, please share your experience and opinion on DOYOUSPEAKLONDON’s blog!

Cette belle plante , pardon cette belle Acanthe, va certainement grimper et prospérer dans le monde musical. Sa voix magnifique et son bonheur de chanter donnent le pèche. Quelle bonne idée de nous avoir présenté ce club vivant et sympathique.

606 has definitely got very good bands on show and even if less central, is as worth visiting as Ronny Scott
